MAYWOOD, Ill. – State Rep. Emanuel Chris Welch, D-Hillside, will hold a press conference Saturday at 12 p.m. outside the Maywood Public Library to address the library closing its doors on Oct. 26 and efforts to reopen the facility.
“The Maywood Public Library provides a safe space for our children to learn, and it serves as a resource to all residents in Maywood,” Welch said. “We are doing a disservice to our community when we don’t prioritize spending, leaving those that are most in need to shoulder the burden.”
According to the Maywood Public Library District website, the library has been open since 1874. More than 3,500 people use the library’s computer center and job center each month, and more than 30 local groups use its facilities for community meetings.
