WESTCHESTER, IL – State Rep. Chris Welch (D-Hillside) announced the approval of over $300,000 in Illinois Department of Transportation funding to construct two architectural monuments at the I-290 interchange in Hillside. The project received funding through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP), a state and federal program designed to enhance the cultural and aesthetic aspects of Illinois’ infrastructure, which will create over 500 jobs statewide.
“This project brings taxpayer dollars back to Hillside and creates jobs in our area,” Welch said. “The village of Hillside has a lot to offer, and I hope that this beautification project attracts more visitors and new businesses. I will continue working to ensure our tax dollars fund job creation in our communities.”
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation website, ITEP is a federally-funded program that supports community based projects that expand travel choices and enhance the transportation experience by improving the cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental aspects of our transportation infrastructure. The contract was awarded to the lowest bid, and the construction start date will be released after a thorough review is conducted to ensure that the contractor maintains standards required by IDOT.
