SPRINGFIELD, IL – Rep Chris Welch (D-Hillside) supports a new initiative from the Illinois Department of Transportation to construct two architectural monuments at the 1-290 interchange in Hillside. Contract bids for this project ended March 8, and the contract was awarded to Path Construction Company, Inc.
“This project brings taxpayer dollars back to Hillside and creates jobs in our area,” Welch said. The Village of Hillside has a lot to offer, and I hope that this project attracts more visitors, improves our community and provides a space for residents to congregate. This beautification project can also attract new business and improve commercial property.
The Program cost is $309,000, and the funding comes from the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP). The contract will go to the lowest bid, and the construction start date is released 45 days after the bid is accepted and a thorough review is conducted to ensure that the contractor maintains standards required by IDOT. ITEP provides funding for community based projects that expand travel choices and enhance the transportation experience by improving the cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental aspects of our transportation infrastructure.
