Welch Leaves Proviso School Board to Focus on New Responsibilities as State Representative

WESTCHESTER, Ill. – State Rep. Chris Welch, D-Hillside, issued the following statement after attending his last meeting as a member of the Proviso Township High School District 209 Board of Education, Monday. After 12 years serving on the board, 10 of which were served as board president, Welch will focus on his new responsibilities as a state representative.

“Although I’ve had my last meeting as a member of the Proviso School Board, I will continue to be a voice for our community in Springfield. My experience here has been invaluable, giving me the chance to serve the students and families of Proviso Township. Together we have fought to improve our community and our education system by opening the first suburban-based magnet high school, the Proviso Math and Science Academy, and presenting a balanced budget.

“As state representative, education remains a top priority for me, and I look forward to working with the board in the future. Improving our education system cannot be done separately from rebuilding our economy or addressing the escalating violence in our neighborhoods and I want to fully devote my time as state representative to addressing these pressing concerns and getting our state back on track. I will maintain an open-door policy, and encourage residents to share any questions or concerns.”
